Easy Peasy

No need for anything fancy around here....easy peasy (hence the below cell phone photos) is our 2013 Christmas motto.

You can use it too if you want.

Following the motto even involved us buying our FIRST PRE-LIT FAKE TREE.

And we really, really like it.

No mess, no worries about finding sturdy branches for the heavy ornaments, no responsibility of watering it, and as you can see, it fits our corner spot PERFECTLY. I like corner spots for trees because they eliminate the number of sides it can get knocked down, played with, and younameitwhateverelse my boys feel like doing to our nice things. I didn't even mind when our oldest quizzically looked at me and said "Mom, trees shouldn't come in a box."

Ah, yes son. You are right. And now that we have more space we're thinking we'll combine the best of both worlds do 2 trees each year...fake one upstairs and a real one downstairs. That is, after we make it through the toddler years.

I also went the pre-packaged route for gifts to our friends this year...

Again, nothing fancy- just easy and simple. LOVE cute paper bags (ala SHOPKO), REAL ribbon (ala Hobby Lobby), cookie cutters (ala Walmart), Sugar Cookie mix, Candycane Cocoa, and festive dishtowels (ala Smiths Marketplace).

On another happy note ~ a couple of weeks ago my husband started a new job. He's really liking it and last night they held a holiday party. Everyone I met was soooo nice, ambiance was festive and pretty (held in one of the conference rooms at the Marriott), and food was yummy (catered by Elements). I was so pleased that everything worked out so well on the homefront too so that we could go out without worrying....first time I've left our sitter with all 3 kids! Thankfully I had the foresight to have her come 1 hr before we needed to leave (so that I wouldn't feel rushed getting ready or transitioning the kids), had Bart bring home a pizza, remembered to check for the How The Grinch Stole Christmas DVD (which magically arrived in our mailbox that day from Netflix), and got Elyse to fall asleep right after I fed her. All of this resulted in....BART + KATE LEAVING THE HOUSE SUCCESS!!!!  Ahhhhh, such satisfaction from the little things....but a lot of little things. ;) All about keeping it easy peasy baby.

Wishing you all a fun and relaxing weekend ~  remember it's all about the feeling of the season!

  1. So glad you were able to go out for a bit! :) LOVE the tree. We have had our prelit one for about 7 years, and the lights are not allll working, but we robbed some off the prelit garland. Whatever works!
