Mister G's First B-Day!

What a fun time I had planning and celebrating our son, Grant's 1st b-day! For 1st b-days we like to keep the celebrating just to close family members, but I still like to go all out with a theme, special food, and party decor. After I decided on a circus theme, I spread the word with these Evite invites featuring this little diddy:

Come one come all to the greatest show in town

Grant Thomas is turning the big ONE, so prepare to clown around.

We'll have popcorn, hot dogs, cake, and peanuts for you, as well as the highly entertaining {our last name} boys too!

Once I picked our theme, I inexpensively purchased circus plates, clown noses (which made for some very funny pics), and circus cut-outs all from Oriental Trading Co. I also found old fashioned Coke bottles at Sams Club, and cardboard popcorn containers from Michaels craft store. For party gifts, I custom ordered these invites from VistaPrint which I attached to animal cracker boxes (close-up above). 

I let Smiths Marketplace {on 400 N.} take care of the cake, and thought they did a fantastic job. I picked all the colors, but assumed they would just do the traditional script font for the wording....I REALLY liked how the all caps turned out!

Below are some various close-ups of the rest of the decor...yes, I officially am in love with our new camera (even if I am still learning how to use it) and yes, I really did temporarily install a couple of flying trapeze artists from the ceiling. They were a big hit!

 I simply used one of those drapery curtain clips (so that she could move across the string) by stringing the circle of it through a string which I then attached with a thumb tack in one corner of the wall/ceiling, and the other end to one of our ceiling light fixtures.

still look great, and all of these guys can all be reused at our next Circus themed event!

 I also created these signs....

 along with a birth -1 yr. photo slideshow {ala Smilebox} that we continuously played on the TV for all our guests. We also gave him this cool 3D card...

All in all, we had just the right mix of novelty, yummy treats, and fun. Perfect for the party of our entertaining and curious 1-year old son!
