Mum's Life

Doesn't the word "mum" just make you smile? I picked it up from this Australian based blog, babyspace who recently has been featuring moms/mums every week in a series called "Meet the Mama." So far I've found them all quite beautifully done, giving me reassurance and inspiration as I continue on this journey of motherhood.

About a month ago I had a conversation with one my friends who recently had her first child and made the decision to become a full-time mom. I could relate with her so much about the reasons she chose to do so, as well as the sacrifices involved in making that choice. I was glad I could be there to let her know that it's oh so very worth it, as well as the things that have helped me. So, I decided to do a post sharing some blogs/articles as well as a few of my own tips regarding motherhood.

1. Find a Play Group. These are as much about finding a supportive environment for you as they are for your child. Be picky though, it's worth your time and effort to find the kind of parents who share in your same parenting values. Click here for a great article about how to stay productive and feel satisfied with your days.

2. Find a way to share your self. Taking care of another human being can be isolating and emotionally draining. It can therefore be very comforting to share in the lives of others experiencing the same things, or to connect with others on another topic you find interesting. A study from this article actually proves that blogging is helpful to new moms!

3. Don't compare yourself to other moms. Before I was a mom myself, I didn't know what I didn't know. I've since adopted this motto: "Every mom is doing the best job that she can." Click here and here to make yourself feel better when you don't feel like you've done the best job, because that happens too.

4. Savor the days of randomness. After Grant's birth I received a baby card that read "These are the days you'll never forget." I've since found myself repeating that phrase quite often, because even though there are many many times when I feel distracted, tired, and absent minded, I DO TAKE NOTICE of the special moments and I DO FEEL SO LUCKY to be able to spend this time together day in and day out throughout all of their different phases. If in need of SOMETHING, I like a lot of the ideas found here. Just like I reminded myself while being pregnant, "It's all part of the experience!"
