Simple

Yesterday the day started by me announcing clean clothes were in the dryer.
This made my husband and I very happy.
It made me happy that I finally got to the laundry this week (even though it had yet to be folded and put away).
And it made him  happy because it meant he didn't have to wear shorts again (weather has really started to take a dip up here).

Later on that day the boys and I met some friends at the park.
I wanted some exercise so we walked.
A few steps into the walk I hear...
"Cold mommy, cold."
I pull up the zipper on his sweater, tuck the hoodie on his windbreaker closer to his head, and pull over the awning to his part of the stroller.
We keep on truckin' cause that's what mommy set out for us to do!
Once we arrive at the park I see his little nose is red and runny.
He doesn't seem to mind cause we're at a park.
He runs and plays till' his little hands turn pink.
I feel bad so I improvise by pulling out an extra pair of socks (who knows why I keep an extra pair of kids socks in my purse) and put them on his hands.
He tells me "ki-ki" (which means thank you).

Our day ended with a home cooked meal and cake.
After Grant was born I told my husband that he'd probably never see dinner on the table by 6 during the week anymore....but today I did it!
Nothing like clean clothes, warm hands, and a belly full of good food.
Such simple pleasures.

Here's some really good and SIMPLE vegetarian recipes (my real intention for this post). While on the topic of food, I also wanted to mention the new series on the FOOD network, The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs on Sunday nights.

*Didn't have any mozzarella so I used string cheese. Ha! Don't laugh too hard- my husband and Dad really liked it.

BBQ Pie Recipe Image
*Next time I'm going to make in a pie crust so that the bread isn't just on top. I also added 1/2 can of kidney beans.

Cheddar Broccoli Soup
*I got this recipe from Alissa Weller at a FREE cooking class at Maceys. Afterwards I bought all the ingredients, then came home and my husband made it for us. So yummy!!

Ingredients:
1 lb. chopped broccoli florets
1 can chicken broth or 2 cups chicken bullion (I use vegetable bullion)
2 Tbl. butter
4 Tbl. flour
1/2 chopped onion
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup half and half
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Microwave the broccoli with 3/4 cup water until fork tender for 6-7 min.
Meanwhile, saute the onion in the butter, then add the flour and cook briefly.
Add the broth with 1/2 cup of broccoli water and 1/4th the broccoli
Mash with potato masher
Bring to a boil, and boil about 5 min.
Lower the heat; stir in remaining broccoli, the half and half, and the cheese until the cheese melts.
Season with salt and pepper.

Hope you're all still enjoying this lovely season of F A L L !

  1. We're going to try some of these cold-weather recipes. Thanks for sharing.

Also, we're really jealous that you get to watch the Next Iron Chef Star. We really like Iron Chef and Next Food Network Star, so we're sure this is a lot of fun. Guess I'll binge when I'm back in Utah.

  2. I will definitely be trying the broccoli soup recipe! That is one of my favorites! And the whole dinner on the table thing? It will be awhile for me as well!
