8 Months

Cathy Thorne's cartoons crack me up. I've posted one of hers before in a previous pregnancy post, and recently came across a few more of hers that I think are so cute, so true, and so funny! I will be sure to include in future posts.

During this delicate time of the final weeks leading up to a baby's birth is when I try to wrap things up and slow down. Since I think it's important to keep a good sense of humor while pregnant, I was going to list all of the silly things I've been doing lately that I relate to being 8 months along, but instead decided to share these poignant excerpts from Gurmukh, the author of the wonderful book Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful because I do consider pregnancy a very special gift worth honoring.

"The time with your baby during pregnancy will never come around again. Please do not make this time regular or ordinary. Please do not try to figure it out. What I am saying is, you need a life less complicated. Simplify, simplify, simplify. Surrender, surrender, surrender. Live each precious moment."

"Enjoy every moment of being pregnant, because every moment is part of the experience."

"While pregnancy is kind of a dream time, full of wonder and wishes for the future, life with a baby throws you full tilt into real time. There are dirty diapers, sleepless nights, a lot of juggling and a lot more noise! And here is where you start to see the true, everlasting joy of having a family: Once the baby has arrived, the paradox hits you that life is uncomfortable and chaotic and more astounding, more amazing, than you ever dreamed it could be."

"So much information is out there about how to get your child to "fit" into your life. What you must do, and you will enjoy doing, is creating a new life for all of you- baby, Mom, and Dad."

"Every day a metamorphosis is occurring: You wake up up and there is a more fully realized soul next to you, changing as if before your eyes. The speed that we see children grow is amazing, and the experiences you and your family share now change you all forever."

"After you have children, you enter into the unknown every day. Do what you can do when you can do it, because children are the unpredictable element. Don't try to figure everything out, because as soon as you do, they are on to something else. Be like a river. Be ever present and flowing."
